German Designers Build iPhone 5 Prototype

From the specs of the iPhone 5 cases that have been going around the web, German designers have actually built a physical prototype of what the new iPhone 5 might look like using CAD (computer aid design). It has a small iPad 2 look to it with the all aluminum case.

If this is indeed a close look at the new iPhone 5 with its VERY sleek deign and lighter weight, looks like it will be another winner for Apple. Will you ditch your iPhone 4 for this nice piece of hardware? Very tempting. Heres the pics of the prototype...

Apple denying vacation requests for employees

AppleInsider reports that Apple has started denying vacation requests for employees during the 2nd week of October.
Apple is quietly denying requests for employee vacations during the second week of October, hinting that the company currently anticipates an influx of customers to its stores around that time related to availability of its new iOS 5 and fifth-generation iPhone products.
Specifically, dates from October 9th through 12th and October 14th through 15th are said to be restricted, suggesting Apple plans on launching new products during that time.

The first set of dates from October 9th-12th could represent iOS 5 launch, as Apple hasinformed AppleCare to expect an influx of support calls starting on October 10th. Coincidentally, Twitter has announced their own developer session in London on the same date. The October 10th Twitter developer session is said to have a "heavy focus on the iOS 5 Twitter integration".

Meanwhile, the 14th to 15th dates suggests that Apple may be preparing for a retail launch of their next generation iPhones on that Friday, the 14th. The timeframe is consistent with other circulating iPhone rumors as well as our knowledge of Apple's expected availability for the White iPod touch.

Apple is expected to hold a media event on October 4th to announce the next generation iPhone as well as the official launch of iOS 5.

Apple holds Media Event On Oct 4th

Apple could certainly change its event schedule anytime, Apple said that the Oct. 4 date has been selected by the company to showcase the iPhone 5. Apple added that the plan is now to make a device available for purchase within a few weeks after the announcement.

Will Apple's new CEO Tim Cook make his Keynote debut as the main speaker? Time will tell, however we here at Applenewsonline we would like to see a Steve Jobs appearance. Were betting on it!

iPad Mail App Crash? Possible Solution

When you open mail and connect to a POP account, does it crash? Can you see mail for a few seconds? Are emails in there from one month ago? Even after you have cleared all emails via webmail, reset devices, deleted and re-added the accounts. Does your iPad or other iOS device seem to have remembered the old emails?

It seems the problem and as stated above is the mail app crashing seems to be tied to undeliverable mail in the main account. Mainly Gmails.

Symptom: Mail App would crash consistently after running for about 5-10 seconds.

Here is a possible fix to the Mail App crashing:
Log directly into and do a search for "undeliverable".

Mail App is setup with a gmail IMAP account. Gmail search results were emails that had been sent out that were deemed undeliverable.

Delete the email and confirm deletion by doing one more search for undeliverable directly in Gmail search  - there were no longer any more results.

Check your iPad mail app and it should be running fine now. Interesting crash issue for iOS on the iPad, Most people dont have this problem with their iMac, Macbook Pro, Mac Mini and iPhone (iOS 4 on a 3GS). All of them are using the same IMAP gmail account and apple's mail client.

iPhone 5 Coming within 4 Weeks?

An Apple employee has seemed to run their mouth a bit and has said a new iPhone 5 is just weeks away.

"We’re just weeks away from the announcement of the new Apple iPhone 5, according to an Apple employee who asked not to be named because he was not allowed to speak publicly for the company. From descriptions I’ve heard of the new iPhone from Apple employees, the images seemed potentially authentic."

Maybe Apple will announce an event soon to correspond with the iPhone launch as well as perhaps updates to the iPod and iPad lineup.

iPhone 5 might have a 4" Screen

Macrumors ordered a pair of these third-party iPhone 5 cases, confirming they are available for public sale and subjecting them to a series of measurements.

While accurate measurements were difficult to achieve due to open ends and overhangs on the sides of the case, we estimate the size of the phone at approximately 4.7" x 2.6". Measuring the expected thickness of the device is more challenging given uncertainty about exactly how the case snaps onto it along the sides, but the device certainly appears to be below .30" at its thickest and tapering by approximately .065" from top to bottom.

Screen Size at Least 4"

The iPhone 4's 3.5" screen measures approximately 1.95" in width within a total device width of 2.31", leaving approximately 0.36" for margins/bezel.

Assuming a comparable margin on the iPhone 5, the device's display would be approximately 2.24" wide, making the display approximately 4" on the diagonal. It seems unlikely that Apple would make the margins of the iPhone 5 screen larger than on the iPhone 4, so if this does represent the final case design, the iPhone 5's screen would have to be at least 4". Of course, this contradicts a recent report from DigiTimes claiming that the iPhone 5's screen would be between 3.5"-3.7".

Unfortunately, we don't have any definitive answers. Depending on which evidence you believe, there are several possibilities.

If you believe these cases represent the final iPhone 5 design, then you also have to believe that the iPhone 5 will be much larger than the iPhone 4 and is certain to have at least a 4" screen. We still can't reconcile this data with the extrapolated dimensions from our designer that suggested a much smaller phone. Those dimensions match up more closely with the circulating rumors of a screen closer to 3.5"-3.7".

Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 5 later this month for a possible October launch.
